The marijuana plant contains over 80 various chemical compounds. From the plant, we find things such as CBD, THC, CBN, and CBG. These are just a few of the cannabinoids that exist in the marijuana plant.
While all cannabinoids bring different purposes and effects to the table, most experts see CBD and THC as the most prominent of the bunch. It’s these two types that the market shoots the most attention to.
So, what are the basic cannabinoids, what makes them up, and why do we even have them? Today we’ll answer these questions and give you the different types of cannabinoids you can commonly find in cannabis.
Cannabinol (CBN)
It is a cannabinoid that is produced when THC is exposed to oxygen and light. CBN is not found in fresh cannabis but is in older cannabis that has been exposed to air and light.
CBN has a mild potent sedative effect and is being studied for its potential medicinal uses. It is a breakdown product of THC.
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)
THC is the most well-known cannabinoid, and it is responsible for the psychoactive effects of Cannabis. THC is the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis and produces the “high” associated with the plant.
Cannabidiol (CBD)
CBDs are another popular cannabinoid, and it is known for their medicinal properties. CBD is non-psychoactive and possesses a variety of therapeutic properties and effects in many medical conditions.
Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8-THC)
It is the best-known and most studied cannabinoid. It is the primary psychoactive component of cannabis, the plant from which marijuana is derived. THC produces the “high” that people experience when they smoke or ingest marijuana.
Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8-THC) is another minor cannabinoid that is similar to THC but is less potent. It is in smaller amounts in cannabis and is not as psychoactive as THC. It is gaining popularity due to its unique effects.
Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV)
Known to have marijuana-like effects on the user, but it is also known to be much more potent. THCV has psychoactive properties that can produce feelings of euphoria and relaxation. It is also known to interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system.
THCV shows potential medical benefits. It is being studied for its ability to help with weight loss, diabetes, and schizophrenia.
Cannabigerol (CBGa Isolate)
CBG (cannabigerol) isolate is a type of isolated cannabinoid from other cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. CBG is non-psychoactive and shows a variety of potential therapeutic benefits, including reducing inflammation, anxiety, and pain.
It’s always recommended to choose a legit CBGa manufacturer if you need it for medical purposes.
