Odell Beckham Jr. has been ruled out for Super Bowl LVI. After tearing his ACL, he will miss the season. He has been out for the season, but the Eagles are hopeful he will return in 2021. Other injuries to watch: Markelle Fultz has been ruled out for the season and Aaron Donald has a rib injury. Here are a few more injury updates to keep an eye on.
OBJ ruled out of Super Bowl LVI
Odell Beckham Jr. has been ruled out of the Super Bowl due to an injury. The wide receiver sustained an injury in the second quarter during the Rams’ loss to the New England Patriots. The WR scored the first touchdown of the game and made several key catches. He is expected to be a free agent at the end of this season, so he will need to decide his future before the start of the 2020 season.
After signing with the Rams midseason, Beckham has struggled with his role as a wide receiver. The Browns cut him during the regular season and the Rams aggressively pursued him. As soon as Robert Woods tore his ACL, the Rams signed the wideout. Once he healed up, Beckham was named Matthew Stafford’s favorite postseason target. While Beckham isn’t a starter anymore, he did have a spectacular game in the NFC championship game and is now expected to play in the Super Bowl on his home field.
A major blow to Beckham’s chances of playing in Super Bowl LVI is his injury. Although his team was unable to field a strong defense, he has shown a good level of play, catching 15 of 19 targets for 182 yards and a touchdown in the two games prior to the Super Bowl. The Rams will surely have the advantage in the game with Beckham.
Beckham initially tore his ACL in October 2020 while playing for the Cleveland Browns. In the same year, he tore his ACL in the same knee. The same injury occurred when he tried to catch a pass as he was crossing the field. Despite the pain he was experiencing during the Super Bowl, he’s a free agent and is eager to return to the NFL.
Odell Beckham Jr. did not return to the game after being helped off the field in the second quarter. His medical status is still unknown. After the game, he told Josina Anderson that there was no definitive diagnosis. The WR had been considered a possible MVP candidate, and he had a 17-yard touchdown catch during the second half. However, after that, he was taken off the field and checked out at the blue medical tent. He later headed to his locker room.
Markelle Fultz out for season after tearing ACL
The Orlando Magic point guard has torn his ACL. This season is already over for Fultz, who suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets. Fultz, the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, had been having a career-best start before sustaining the injury. It is unclear what will happen next for the rookie.
Fortunately, the young player has already experienced numerous setbacks. His two previous seasons, he only managed to play 33 games. In his first two NBA seasons, he was plagued with nerve issues in his shoulder. Although he’s still just 24, he’s been through more than most players. The injury has not slowed him down too much, however. The team is now confident that he’ll be ready for training camp in the fall.
The Magic were 6-2 before Fultz’s injury, and the team was already playing without Jonathan Isaac and Evan Fournier. Fultz had been having one of the best starts of his NBA career, averaging 13 points, 5.4 assists, and 3.1 rebounds. He had scored 20 points twice in eight games, including a double-double against Oklahoma City. Despite his injury, Fultz has been able to put the incident in the back of his mind, understanding that there’s no way to predict the future.
The Orlando Magic will make Fultz’s season debut on Monday against the Indiana Pacers, after he cleared the team to play him. Although the process was difficult, he has been dealing with significant injuries for a while, and he added that he was ready for a new challenge. He will be able to play in the final 21 games of the season. This is a positive sign for the future of the Orlando Magic.
While he is out for the season, the Magic have a lot of young talent that could be a great asset for their young core. This team’s starting five is practically a college All-Star team, and they can learn a lot from the Cleveland Cavaliers. It’s important to note that Fultz’s ACL tear is not a surprise, and the team is confident that he will be back as soon as he can.
Odell Beckham Jr.’s knee injury
The Super Bowl XLVIII game ended in a 23-20 victory for the New England Patriots and their star wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr., was sidelined with a knee injury during a noncontact play. Beckham writhed and clutched his left knee as he walked back to the locker room. The Rams later ruled Beckham out of the game, and the injury is now causing him to miss the rest of the game.
The severity of the injury will be determined by the results of the MRI, which are expected to show a torn left anterior cruciate ligament. Beckham will need to have surgery to repair the ligament, and the recovery process could take several months. While it may not be the worst case scenario, the NFL is hopeful that Beckham will be back by early November. If all goes well, he could even make an even bigger impact next season.
The news that Beckham’s knee is torn is very disappointing, but it’s also no surprise. The two-time Super Bowl MVP had already suffered an ACL tear in October last year and is unlikely to miss much more than nine games. In addition to that, he is also battling a re-occurrence of the injury. Although he’s still on the injured list, he’ll miss the next Super Bowl with the Rams.
Although Beckham’s first ACL surgery did not go as planned, a second surgery was a necessary step in his career. His second surgery allowed the Los Angeles Rams’ team doctor to correct mistakes and give him more time to play. The injury will have a significant impact on his play on the field, but if he does eventually recover, he may be able to sign a long-term contract with a New England team.
Whether Beckham is healthy or not will determine his availability for free agency. He’s been linked to several teams, but it’s unlikely he’ll be able to make a decision on his future until he recovers from his knee injury. However, the Rams, who have been rumored to have a mutual interest in him, are now the most likely to sign him.
Aaron Donald’s rib injury
A few days after sustaining a rib injury during a recent practice, Aaron Donald is reportedly expected to play in a game against the Green Bay Packers. Although the Rams have not disclosed the severity of the injury, they remain hopeful that Donald will be fully recovered for the kickoff. The team’s MRI on Donald has revealed that the ribs were not broken. The Rams are currently tied with the Baltimore Ravens as the top scoring defense in the NFL. With a defense that surrenders 18.6 points per game, Donald is an important piece of the defensive line.
In a sack attempt against Russell Wilson, Donald appeared to be struggling to get up from the field. As he walked off the field, he grabbed at his right rib cage and was tagged as questionable for the game. However, NFL reporter Omar Ruiz noted that he walked off the field on his own power. Initially, it looked like Wilson landed heavily on Donald when he spun down on the field, but he has not been knocked out of the game for now.
The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Seattle Seahawks 30-20 and advanced to the Wild Card Weekend. They will now play the winner of the Chicago Bears-New Orleans Saints game on Sunday. On Friday, Donald injured his ribs in a hit on Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Thankfully, the rib injury wasn’t serious enough to prevent him from playing. Thankfully, he is expected to be able to play against the Packers this weekend.
Though Donald isn’t expected to play in Sunday’s divisional round game against the Seahawks, the defensive line remained strong without him. Despite the loss of his best player, the Rams will likely need to rely on A’Shawn Robinson to play in the absence of Donald. In addition to his injury, Donald’s status will remain uncertain until the team releases a full injury report on Sunday.
