There are several major world cities. China has the largest population, with more than 1.4 billion people. It is followed by India with 1.355 billion people and the United States with 328 million people. While New York is the world’s most populous city, there are many others that are large, too.
Tokyo-Yokohama is the largest city in the world

During the feudal period and national seclusion, Yokohama was a small fishing village. However, in the late 1850s, American Commodore Matthew Perry’s fleet of warships landed in the city and demanded that Japan open several of its ports for trade and commerce. This is when the city began to develop. Today, Yokohama is home to the Central League baseball team, the Yokohama BayStars, as well as the Yokohama FC, a professional football team.

This is larger than Moscow, which is the seventh largest city in the world at 4,662 square kilometers (11 million square miles). The city’s black culture flourished during the Prohibition period, and the Harlem Renaissance thrived. Today, New York City is home to a variety of museums, high-end fashion, and culture. Beijing is the second-largest city in China

Many people native to Beijing speak the Beijing dialect, which is one of the subdivisions of spoken Chinese. It is also the basis of putonghua, the standard spoken language of mainland China. The Beijing dialect is also one of the four official languages of Singapore.
Tokyo is projected to be a megacity by 2050
By 2050, more than two-thirds of the world’s population will live in urban areas. This urban growth will be concentrated in China, India, and Nigeria. Meanwhile, the world’s rural population is expected to peak in a few years and decline by 2050. Today, Tokyo is the world’s most populous city with a population of over 37 million. Other megacities include Beijing, Mexico City, and Sao Paulo, which are all projected to reach over 20 million people by 2050.
The growth of megacities is a direct result of global urbanization. Just 50 years ago, only two cities were larger than 10 million people. Now, 55% of the world’s population lives in cities. Today, these cities serve as the hub of economic activity for their countries. According to U.N. statistics, there are 32 megacities currently in 32 countries. Another 2.5 billion people are projected to live in megacities by 2050.
